A few weeks ago at I/O 2024, a report revealed that Google may soon introduce the facility to play music on YouTube Music through Gemini. Now, Google is rolling out this feature, so you can use voice commands to ask Gemini to play your favorite music.

Now you can play your favorite music on the YouTube Music app on your Android smartphone or tablet through Google Gemini voice commands. You must enable the YouTube Music extension from the Settings menu in the Google Gemini app on your Android smartphone or tablet to use this feature.
How to Use Gemini YouTube Music Extension?
For your information, the YouTube Music extension for Gemini is disabled by default. Eligible users will need to add their Gemini account to YouTube Music and enable the extension to operate it. Here’s how to enable the Gemini YouTube Music extension.

- Go to Gemini Extensions on your Android or desktop.
- Scroll down and tap on YouTube Music extension and turn it on.
- You’ll see a prompt to connect to YouTube Music.
- Click Connect.
- That’s it! Thanks to Music Commands, Gemini can now access streaming services and your personal library.
Google says the YouTube Music extension only works in English, with more languages supported in the coming days. Google has also shared a list of tips to help users get the best out of extensions. These include:
- Play [song name] by [artist name]
- Play the album [album title] by [artist name]
- Playplaylist
- Play [genre] music
- Play the [song name] music video
- Start a radio based on the song [song name]
