Google’s Gemini virtual assistant is getting smarter, the company said during its Google I/O keynote on Tuesday. Now, Gemini will be able to understand more context about the app you’re using, asking questions about the video you’re currently watching on YouTube. At the event, Google also confirmed an upgrade to Android’s Circle to Search with the ability to help you complete your physics and math homework for students and teachers.

Google continues working on the CtS and the company revealed at I/O 2024 that Circle to Search will add new features to help students better understand potentially difficult classroom topics.
Given what Google has teased, Circle to Search has now become a great study teacher. You can draw circles on your phone or tablet to get step-by-step instructions on how to solve complex physics and math problems.
Circle to Search will be able to understand and display symbolic formulas, diagrams, graphs, and more through LearnLM AI models. When available, it is expected to be accessible as an experimental feature that can be activated through a Google Account under the Labs section.

Plus, many of the generative AI-based features that have come to phones in the last year are focused on individual tasks, like editing photos or translating phone calls. But this Gemini new version shows that Google wants AI to become a core part of Android’s UI.
