According to the folks at Android Authority, Google has rolled out the ability for Gemini to access Google Gmail. Along with the Gemini button, a pop-up for Gemini provides you with quick hints or suggestions for tasks you can ask Gemini to perform. For example, you can ask it to summarize this email, list the next steps, and suggest a reply.
Clicking on Summarize this email, List the next steps, and Suggest a reply button will perform the corresponding task. These suggestions make it even easier to have Gemini help you read and write emails in Gmail.

Interestingly, Gemini is using Google Assistant for Gmail related tasks, which is evident from the events being shown by the Assistant on the screen. Still, it now works with Gmail.
Google is rolling out the new AI features with Gmail version 2024.05.26.638440827. To participate the new changes and features, make sure to update the app to the latest version.
