Google launches Android safe browsing feature for everyone

Google has started rolling out Android Safe Browsing, a new security feature on Android smartphones to enhance the secure experience of users. This security feature first appeared in the Google Play Services app 23.41.13 and is now being made available to users via the server side.

As noted in an update posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Android expert Mishaal Rahman, Android Safe Browsing is now being rolled out by Google.

The Android Safe Browsing feature lets you see which apps support the feature as well as a “Live Threat Protection” toggle that “enables more accurate threat detection.”

Additionally, the feature alerts you about security threats such as harmful links and web pages when you browse supported apps. For example, if you click a link in your News app you may get an alert that will take you to a known phishing site.”

Additionally, it works by leveraging the SafetyNet Safe Browsing API – this gives apps the ability to determine if a URL has been designated as a known threat by Google.
