Google has been quietly working on its upcoming Pixel 8a smartphone, with no word yet on whether it will arrive or not. Recently, Google confirmed the existence of the Pixel 8a by inadvertently addressing a Pixel battery feature that was mysteriously removed after the March Pixel feature drop.
Last year, the Google Pixel 7a was launched at the I/O conference, which usually takes place in early May. So we can expect Pixel 8a to launch at the upcoming I/O event. The Google Pixel 8a will bring new battery information stats feature that were previously seen on existing Pixel phones but were later removed after the March 2024 feature drop.
Google battery stats feature
Google introduced the new Battery stats feature in the Battery Information section with the Android 14 QPR 1 update, which shows the battery’s charging cycle count and creation date. These pieces of information or stats were meant to help users estimate their phone’s battery health.
According to the issue tracker support page, Google employees informed that the Battery stats feature will be available only with Pixel 8a and above smartphones. So, the answer indicates that the launch of the Pixel 8a smartphone is confirmed, and the launch will happen soon.
Google Pixel 8a expected specifications
Google Pixel 8a is expected to launch with an underclocked Tensor G3 chipset and the smartphone will run on Android 14 out of the box. Additionally, similar to the Pixel 8 series, it should be eligible for 7 years of Android updates and security patches.
In terms of optics, it may come with dual rear cameras. Also, it can support 27W wired fast charging technology. On the other hand, Google is expected to launch the upcoming device in Obsidian, Porcelain, Bay, and Mint colors. The Pixel phone will have 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage.
