The new feature appears much like Snapchat’s Lenses in its current state and puts on a 3D effect that replicates the user’s facial motions. Certain effects completely enclose the user’s face, while others just include accessories like a hat or spectacles. The app’s camera user interface (UI) features a new button to the left of the shutter button that displays a carousel with all of the available effects, as demonstrated in the video that follows.

The effects in the carousel may be activated by tapping on the icons, and users can then use the shutter button to take a picture or record a video.

Nine effects are visible in Google Messages version 20240708, including the Valentine’s Day panda, Runner, Glasses, Dinosaur, Film Noir, Glowing Hat, and Portrait touch-up. By the time people can use the function, Google might have added more.

As of right now, Google has not released any formal details regarding the impending feature or an anticipated release date. Nearer the launch, it is anticipated that the corporation will provide more information.

On the other hand, Google is also busy Auto-updating MMS chats to RCS, just like  Apple has integrated RCS into iMessage. Google is currently using this chance to convert outdated cross-platform chats to RCS.

In the event that you engaged in a group chat with users of both Android and iPhone, the entire exchange was transformed into MMS and SMS. However, several lines of code discovered in the messages.android_20240702_01_RC00.phone_samsung_openbeta_dynamic version of the Google Messages app indicate that these previous exchanges will be converted into RCS.
