Samsung caused a stir a few years ago when it promised four years of Android updates and five years of security updates, but Google has beaten the company to the punch by offering seven years of updates for its Pixel 8 lineup in 2023. So how many software updates will the latest Galaxy S24 series get?
At its Unpacked event earlier this year, Samsung launched the latest generation of its Galaxy S smartphones. The Galaxy S24 is perfect for the current Samsung lineup, with a very slight improvement over last year’s S23 phones
The main headlines are an abundance of AI-powered tools and a trendy titanium frame for the S24 Ultra. The company also committed to providing seven years of software support for the Galaxy S24 lineup, including the latest Android operating system, security updates, and ongoing minor updates.
Galaxy S24 lineup software updates
With the Galaxy S24 series launch, the company commits to providing seven years of software support, including Android OS upgrades, security updates, and regular patches. This means that your Galaxy S24 series will be supported all the way until 2031. No major smartphone brand except Google offers this committed level of support and longevity. This makes these phones a more durable smartphone option, as they will remain safe and perform well for up to seven years.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 will come with Android 14-based One UI 6.1 and will receive updates for seven years. This will keep the lineup updated until at least 2031, or until Android 21 if the naming convention continues.
On the other hand, other Android OEMs such as Oppo, OnePlus, and Xiaomi now offer four years of Android updates and five years of security updates, but only on premium flagship phones.
