Is Samsung Developing ChatGPT Alternative?

With its own chatGPT substitute, Samsung is ready to join the AI bandwagon. This comes after the organisation recently limited the usage of generative AI technologies. It has recently come to our attention that the South Korean IT behemoth is creating its own Large Language Model (LLM). See more information after this.

Is Samsung Developing ChatGPT Alternative

According to a report by Chosun Media, Samsung is using Samsung Research to devote a sizeable number of labour and resources to the development of AI within the company. The consumer tech giant reportedly started the process on June 8 and expects to wrap up the initial development phase by the end of July, according to Chosun Media.

In fact, the article even asserts that Samsung has temporarily banned the use of GPU resources within the company. All of the company’s GPU resources are reportedly being redirected to training the future AI model. It takes a lot of GPU resources to train an AI model using real-world data. Therefore, this action is not at all unexpected. The usage of GPUs (graphics processing units) has been prohibited for all other in-house software development organisations, according to many Samsung electronics executives.

Before you get very enthusiastic, you should be aware that Samsung intends to utilise this forthcoming model exclusively internally. So, regrettably, no commercial rollout. The main use cases at Samsung include software development, documentation, and language translation.

It is hardly unexpected that Samsung is creating its own AI LLM. The company has the justification and means to do so. Recently, when utilising ChatGPT within the company, internal Samsung data was exposed. Thus, the pressing need to create its own AI-based LLM solution. Samsung has allotted themselves two months to completely implement the initial AI model.

We currently lack any solid information upon which to build our conclusions. We thus suggest that you approach this development with caution. As Samsung’s self-imposed deadline draws near, we anticipate that additional information will soon become available. So, keep checking for new information.
