OnePlus has released the May 2024 security update for OnePlus Open with version CPH2551_14.0.0.801(EX01). The highlight of this update is Ultra HDR support for ProXDR photos in the camera options. The Ultra HDR feature was an exclusive Android 14 feature at launch, but it’s good to see it expanding to other devices. This mode lets you share and display photos with a high dynamic range on apps running on devices that support Ultra HDR.

The OnePlus 12 was the company’s first phone to support capturing Ultra HDR photos, now, OnePlus Open is adding Android’s Ultra HDR support for ProXDR photos, which can be shared and displayed with high dynamic range on apps running on the device that supports Ultra HDR.

Changelog:

System

  • Improves system stability.
  • Integrates the May 2024 Android security patch to enhance system security.

Camera

  • Adds Android’s Ultra HDR support for our ProXDR photos, which can be shared and displayed with a higher dynamic range on an app running on a device that supports Ultra HDR.

The update for OnePlus Open is rolling out first for India, but we expect to see it roll out for the EU and NA regions soon.

In addition, this update protects against potential bugs and viruses so that the smartphone can work smoothly. OnePlus recommends all users to install the update immediately to take advantage of the new security measures.

Users are advised to install the update promptly to benefit from the improved security measures and photo experience. To install the update, open the smartphone’s settings, select ‘About device’ > ‘OxygenOS version’, and then ‘Download and install’.

Android’s Ultra HDR:

One of the most striking features of Android 14 is the Ultra HDR image format. It’s a new image format that’s based on the ubiquitous JPEG format, which means it’s supported by nearly every medium. Ultra HDR builds on JPEG by adding an HDR gainmap to its metadata, allowing the same image to display properly on both standard and high dynamic range displays.
