Samsung’s Galaxy AI: Exclusive Access Unveiled for a Select Few!

Recently, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series has debuted, thrusting Artificial Intelligence into the spotlight. Samsung has boldly labeled them as “AI phones” instead of traditional smartphones. Galaxy AI suite offers some impressive features that will be extended to older devices soon. However, the final list of eligible devices will be more limited than anticipated, with notable exclusions.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 trio of smartphones at its Unpacked 2024 event, earlier this month. A presentation was focused on the revelation of the new intelligent software features. These features encompass Circle to Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, Photo Assist, and others named Galaxy AI features. This feature list will evolve in the future as seven-year software is promised.

As informed the S23 series, S23 FE, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, and the Tab S9 will receive Galaxy AI functionality via software updates, in the initial six months of this year. The S22 series will not get Galaxy AI Update. During a discussion with TechRadar, Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, disclosed that devices launched in 2022 were excluded from the list, as they want to “secure the quality and the performance first, then they will learn how people use (these features) and tune the performance.”

This could be disappointing news for Samsung Galaxy S22 users as it’s not even two years old and shares the same Exynos 2200 chipset as the S23 FE. The spokesperson did use terms like “for now” while explaining this decision, but changes are still uncertain. Among the eligible models, we anticipate One UI 6.1 update to introduce Galaxy AI capabilities.

The Samsung Galaxy S24’s AI features are free till 2025 afterward there will be subscription charges. The charges are not disclosed yet, but third-party features like Google’s Circle to Search may continue to be offered for free. Google is adopting a similar approach in the Pixel 8 series, the features like Magic Editor will require a Google One subscription.
