Over the past two years, WhatsApp has added a frenzy of new features. The business revealed the ability to modify messages after enabling simple data transfer across Android and iOS. It is also developing a feature that will let you share your phone’s screen with others. Now, the business has unveiled WhatsApp Channels, a brand-new tool that functions similarly to Telegram Groups.
A quick and private method to follow individuals, businesses, and communities is through WhatsApp Channel. The ‘Updates’ page will display all of the updates from users and brands, which you may follow. This keeps your family’s and friends’ communications and groups distinct from those updates. You can only receive updates because it is a one-way broadcasting mechanism; you cannot make changes to Channels.
The instant messaging service stated that it was creating a searchable directory where you could choose who and what you wanted to follow, such as businesses, organisations, causes, local governments, and sports teams. You may also join channels by accepting email invites that are delivered through chats, emails, and other methods.
The email and phone numbers of channel administrators and followers won’t be made public in order to maintain security. WhatsApp’s servers will save channel history for up to 30 days. Updates can be made to automatically expire after a set amount of time using a feature. Even screenshots and forwarding from their channels might be blocked by admins.
The administrators of WhatsApp channels may also control who is allowed to follow them. Although end-to-end encryption is not yet available for channel updates, the business is working on it. Additionally, administrators can decide whether or not a channel should be searchable. Brands may build channels, and this functionality is initially being rolled out in Singapore and Colombia.
Through this tool, the organisation enables individuals to start and assist enterprises. Anyone will be able to start a WhatsApp Channel in the future. Channels are compatible with WhatsApp Pay, and they may also be advertised in the directory.
