The Chief of YouTube Neal Mohan has recently posted on X about their new erase tool, quoting” Good news, creators: our updated Erase Song tool helps you easily remove copyright-claimed music from your video (while leaving the rest of your audio intact).”
The company claimed in the video that although it has been testing the eraser tool for some time, it wasn’t as successful at deleting a piece of music that was protected by copyright. It was mentioned that the new tool employs an AI-powered algorithm to identify and eliminate that particular song from the clip without affecting any other audio.
YouTube continues to caution on its support page that occasionally the algorithm may not be able to remove only the music.
The company also mentioned that “this edit might not work if the song is hard to remove. If this tool doesn’t successfully remove the claim on a video, you can try other editing options, such as muting all sound in the claimed segments or trimming out the claimed segments”.

As an alternative, producers might opt to “Mute all sound in the claimed segments” in order to mute any portions of a video that might include content protected by copyright. YouTube eliminates the content ID claim, which is a method of recognizing the use of copyrighted content in various clips, as soon as the creator successfully modifies the video.
